Day 15 – Arca do Pino to The End! Santiago de Compostela

Another 20 plus km day, though seemingly easy since it’s the last. Whoever has seen The Way has been duped into thinking that anyone would want to keep walking after reaching Santiago. That is not reality. Breakfast at a panaderia was a treat, and accompanied by a dubbed rerun of Knight Rider, my favorite show from way back when. The cow pies and flies have given way to sheep herds and the farm smells are replaced by eucalyptus for this last leg, thank god. The weather kept its balmy promise all day and we reached Santiago by 4pm despite another late start. Entering Santiago was underwhelming, walking through suburbs along concrete for the last 3 km. Where are the bus loads of pilgrims? Where are any other pilgrims? The old city center and the cathedral are spectacular. Tomorrow we’ll join the pilgrim’s mass at noon and stand up to represent the USA. Yay!
